This is the annual trial ride for VA4WDA at Oak Ridge Estate in Nelson County Virginia. It is going to be on the holiday weekend and is going to be on Saturday and Sunday with travel home on Monday. Primitive camping is on site and included in the fee.

If I am able to go I will be there. I had a great time at wheeling for hope and a good time wheeling with you. I promise to get my wife to take pics of your Defender this time

Yea, We always have fun at Oak Ridge. The Saturday Sunday thing is a little different for them. Some of the regular attendees are not going to be able to go since it is on a holiday weekend. I guess the management wants to get the family more involved so moved the dates to a holiday so that the kids will be out of school. At any rate it should be fun....and dusty.

The club joined u4wda but not VA4WDA. I know in United that there are a few membership types. ROAV joined the lower tier type. The talk, in the past years, centered around the increase cost of our clubs membership if the club, ROAV, were to join these groups. The ROAV membership is pretty large due to the requirement of being a member to attend MAR. The board thought at that time, my take on it but not necessarily my opinion, that it would raise the ROAV membership cost too much and that a lot of the members were already members of either VA4wdA or United. The politics of both of those organizations have been a bit interesting of late. But you have a good point and it would be nice for the club to address this again.

What overhead does ROAV have and what does the $20.00 membership fee go towards?
I'm not advocating for VA4WDA or United as I think both organizations are a joke. But if this has been discussed already, then where do the membership dues go?

to offset insurance costs and other admin, printing copies of the Gearbox for use at events, etc. ROAV has the lowest cost membership of any club I am aware of. I know the last two years Christina was also sending out stickers and other stuff to people who joined outside of the MAR.

I'm not trying to start anything here, but how much does the club pay for Insurance? Every time money is talked about, Insurance cost comes up.
Dues pay for insurance. The $25.00 Cove registration fee pays for insurance. Profit from events pays for insurance. It would seem everything comes down to Insurance.
When we did the Cove events over the last few years, Insurance was about $800.00 and that was good for one calender year. We were able to stagger the event dates so that the policy actually covered two events within the calender year. This was a $1M multiple occurrence type policy.
...and I thought John Keeney printed the Gearbox?

K&K insurance was about $1800 for all four events last year. BOD insurance was another $800 or so. John did last year, not the previous year. I thought you used Garrett's policy under OE as a sponsor? Why did you need to charge attendees?

The Cove requires you to name their company specifically on the Insurance. It's basically a rider. This went beyond the scope of what Team Rover and OEX carry, or at least carried at the time.
We charged $20.00. That $20.00 went directly to Team Rover and/or OEX, depending on the year. The last year OEX "made" about $120.00 (6 trucks too many). So out of that "profit" it paid for cups, plates, bowls, paper towels, forks, buns, and BBQ sauce for the pig roast. Ended up in the red by about $8.00.

I think the membership dues for ROAV are very inexpensive. I do not care that they, ROAV, does not belong to these other organizations because I do as an individual. I would like ROAV to be more a part of what these other organizations do but they have had a hard time getting somebody to volunteer to head this up.
All of the BOD and others who help out are volunteers. They donate their time and efforts so that the rest of us can have fun. I appreciate everything that they do. It is hard enough in today's world to find free time to do anything not to mention giving your time to a club. Thanks guys/gals I appreciate you!
If you are in the club and want to see something else done, volunteer.

It's not as easy as you make it sound, Mike. I know I tried and was shot down. Roverhound tried and was shot down. Now ranewman is trying, but is not making an progress because the Board of Directors can't get their heads out of their asses. It's been this way for years.
One person cannot do anything in this club. Up until this year it took eleven (11) people to make a decision on what color stationary to buy. This year is a little better since they went from eleven (11) to seven (7). Even still they cannot even return a phone call. I guess they have to have a meeting about returning phone call first??
I know these people are volunteers. I know they are doing this out of the ever so very loving kindness of their precious little hearts. But Jesus, man, you would think they were planning a raid on bin Laden the way the Board operates. The man wants to help out the Virginia Trails Committee and cannot even get a call back.
So it's not as easy as just stepping up. Not with this club, anyway.

Not true, I worked with you until it was too much of a pain in the ass. Even Walter said so. I offered it to him the next year and he declined because he said he had a position in SV4A and a busy schedule.

You came out one time, Chuck. Once. That was it.
In case you do not remember, look back at all the threads of mine you deleted. They were posted under my original screen name, dchapman, before you enabled the "hide" function on my profile. Look back at the Virginia Trails section where I made 5 or 6 posts planning dates to do trail clean-ups and other projects AFTER ROAV said I would have to work alone on this because ROAV could offer no support to me.
How quick you forget, Chuck.
But yeah, it was a real pain in the ass, wasn't it? It must have taken months to plan and schedule some responsible duties. Makes me tied just thinking about it.

yeah, um- no.. Walter was there at two separate meetings with the FS at the site, while we were cleaning up. Ask Tami, she was there taking photos. Or Dave Graham for SV4W, your club as you say. He and I rode to a few meetings togehter. I attended 4 or 5 FS meetings as well, then the fence project. I do not remember seeing you at any of those except some of the evening meetings.
