Hi everyone... I am listing some information to help you plan your weekend at Montebello.

[b]Camping
Montebello Camping and Fishing Resort will be the host of our Spring Rally. Tent camping will be allowed on the lawn near the Pavilion; however, there is a slope there. There is a $4 per day per person fee (collected by ROAV) to camp on the lawn. No vehicles are allowed on the lawn.

Cabins [/b]
The few cabins at Montebello Resort are booked. The Cabins at Crabtree Falls may have some available. www.crabtreefalls.com/

Hotels/Lodging
There is a Days Inn in Raphine, VA off I-81 Exit 205. It is about 10 miles from the campground.

Wintergreen Resort (Nellysford, VA) is about a 30 minute drive from Montebello. They offer various types of lodging and rentals, as well as dining, spa, golf and tennis. www.wintergreenresort.com/

General Store
Montebello Resort has a General Store which is a typical campground store. They usually offer chili and some refrigerator sandwiches. No alcohol is available. www.montebellova.com/c..._store.htm The also sell gas here.

Coffee Shop
The Java Depot is located in Nellysford, VA. It is open 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM. They have free WiFi during their hours of operation. They will be offering coffee and pastries at the Montebello Pavilion Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Food/Alcohol
Alcohol is not sold at Montebello Resort. Groceries, beer and wine are available at Wintergreen Grocery in Nellysford, VA.

Gertie’s Country Store and Deli in Vesuvius, VA (6 miles from Montebello) offers Deli sandwiches, beer and local wines.

In Virginia, liquor is only sold in state owned ABC stores. There is a VA ABC Store located in Nellysford, VA. Please drink responsibly.

Wineries and Breweries

Fishing
Montebello Resort has a fishing pond that is stocked with rainbow trout weekly. There is a charge for the fish caught from this pond. Campers may fish their lake for free. The lake has trout, perch, bass, crappie and catfish. No license is required since Montebello is private property. Bait is sold at the General Store.

Hiking
Crabtree Falls, one of the highest in the East, is about 4.5 miles from the campground. It is a strenuous hike of 6 miles roundtrip with an elevation change of 1500 feet from the lower trailhead (off VA 56). A less strenuous hike can be made from the upper trailhead at Crabtree Meadows (off VA 826). Please heed the warnings about the dangers of the Falls as there is a slippery, clear algae growing on the rocks. nelsoncounty.com/visit...treefalls/

The Appalachian Trail passes through Crabtree Meadows. The Priest can be reached hiking Northbound and Spy Rock can be reached hiking Southbound.

Humpback Rocks is an easy hike from the Blue Ridge Parkway (milepost 5.8).
It offers rock scrambles and a 360 ° panoramic view with beautiful sunsets.

Horseback Riding
Appalachian Horse Adventures offers trail rides of varying lengths and skill levels. The guide will take 2 to 6 riders out at a time. Advance reservations are highly recommended. www.montebellova.com/H...riding.htm

Natural Bridge Area Attractions
Natural Bridge, VA is about an hour and twenty minute drive from Montebello Resort. The Natural Bridge and Natural Bridge Caverns are located there.

Gasoline
The closest gas stations appear to be in Raphine, VA (about 10 miles from campground) and in Nellysford, VA (about 30 minutes away). The Montebello Store also sells gas.

There doesn’t appear to be any cell

We did the Safari Park years ago when the kids were little, IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE BLAST! They still talk about it, my youngest (now 22) claims to still have nightmears from the Ostrich poking it's head through the open sunroof to get the food.

Just imagine the photography potential of Rovers on Safari!
