Hello all. My name is Lester and I am a double transplant of sorts. I recently moved from Sonoma County California to WV for a job in NOVA and I just traded in my '90 Jeep Cherokee and bought a 96 Disco, 4.0 V8, 5 Speed, lifted to 3.5" winch, roof rack, 33's and its green. I bought it from a guy named Jim who lives down the street for $2200. It runs great and from all I can tell it only needs a few cosmetic things to make it perfect for me.
Anyways, nice to met you all and I look forward to wheeling with you. I have some plans for the Disco. Front and rear bumpers and maybe a hitch and some armour. I am a decent welder, fabricator so this stuff shoud be fairly easy. Any tips or cautions about this model Rover would be much appreciated. I really dont know crap about Rovers other than it looked bad a$$ and from what I can tell it was well built and not too badly thrashed. I know Jeeps quite well and have built everything from my own bumpers to a custom Y-link suspension, roof rack, frame stiffeners, sliders, etc.
Time to learn Rovers. I can blame Jeremy from Top Gear for the obsession to get one.

Welcome!! You'll find that alot of folks evolved from Jeeps to Rovers.
Do you have the factory service manual? It'll definately come in handy..

I do it came with it. Even has the radio code. One thing I forgot to mention it looks like window regulators are in my future. Previous owner siad that the drivers side and the rear passenger were shot and they are! Guess I will pull it apart and see what there is to see. I am a strictly DIY guy but I must say I am intimadated a bit about not knowing crap about Rovers. Guess I will learn quickly. The engine drive train seems to be in awesome working condition. The motor is very smooth for having 130k on the Odometer. Hope the JY's by my house have a few.

One of the best resources in the Rover community for parts and info is located in VA.
Memorize this # 434-251-9331 - it will come in handy!
That number is for Will Tillery aka Roverguy. Will's customer service and knowledge are hard to beat!

x2 on Will, probably the best resource for any replacement parts. He also stocks some new stuff, calling him is much faster than internet.

Thanks guys. I feel like I have a bit of a mountain to climb, acclimating to a british car and all. Is there a list of common problems and solutions? I hate being that guy asking all the questions already asked.
